Woman shot dead after getting out of SUV in east Oak Cliff

A woman was shot to death near Tama Park in east Oak Cliff on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were called to a shooting in the 1300 block of Baden Street, near South Moore Street, just before 1 p.m. Witnesses told police that a woman had gotten out of a red SUV one block south, on Valley Street, and that they then heard multiple gunshots.

The woman ran, eventually collapsing in a field on Baden Street, police said. Dallas Fire-Rescue took the woman to a hospital, where she died. Police did not release the woman’s name but said she was 40 years old.

Shortly after the shooting, police stopped a vehicle matching the description of the SUV in the 1300 block of East Clarendon Drive. The driver was taken to police headquarters for questioning and was considered a person of interest.

The slaying is the city’s fourth homicide of the year.
