19-year-old wounded in shooting in downtown Dallas, police say

A man was wounded when someone shot him with a rifle Saturday night in downtown Dallas, police said.

Officers were called about 9:30 p.m. to the 2200 block of Canton Street, near Cesar Chavez Boulevard, where a group of people had been playing basketball at an apartment complex.

Police said there was a “disagreement” between one of the people in the group, a 19-year-old man, and another person, who eventually left the area and returned along with a male armed with an assault rifle as the group was leaving the gym, police said.

The armed male fired several rounds into the air before shooting the 19-year-old man in the abdomen, police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where he had surgery, police said. Police said they did not have information about his condition.

Authorities interviewed four witnesses and one possible suspect by Sunday morning, police said.

Police did not release further details about the shooting.
