Man faces intoxication manslaughter charges after fiery crash that killed 2 in Forney, police say

A man is facing two counts of intoxication manslaughter after police say he caused a fiery crash that killed two women in Forney on Sunday.

Royce Freebourn, 61, of Heath, was arrested after the crash, Forney police said.

Police were called about 10:50 a.m. to the scene of the crash on the eastbound U.S. Highway 80 service road at the Gateway Boulevard bridge. A witness reported that a driver in an SUV going east on on the service road ran a stop sign and hit a car going north on Gateway Boulevard.

The two vehicles were fully engulfed with flames when officers arrived, Police Chief Mica Lunt said at a news conference Monday.

The impact of the crash pushed the cars onto a highway entrance ramp, Lunt said.

Two women who were in the car that was struck died at the scene. Police identified them as Margarita Bottello and Yazmin Villagomez Martinez, both residents of Kaufman. Police did not specify their ages.

Lunt called the scene of the crash gruesome.

“These kinds of scenes are never ever easy for anyone to deal with, no matter how many that you have seen,” he said.

Police told KXAS-TV (NBC 5) that alcohol isn’t believed to be a factor in the crash and that Freebourn, the driver facing charges, is also being treated for injuries.

The crash is still under investigation by Forney police and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
