5 students in custody after fight at Fort Worth middle school, officials say

Five students were taken into police custody after a fight broke out at a Fort Worth middle school Tuesday morning, school officials and police said.

Officers were called at 9:15 a.m. about the disturbance at Rosemont Middle School.

Fort Worth ISD spokesman Clint Bond said staff members and a police officer had broken up the fight among students.

The school was briefly placed on lockdown so the staff could ensure the situation was under control, Bond said. Then the school switched to a “lock-out,” with classes resuming while the campus’s outside doors were locked as police investigated.

The school had returned to normal operations by 11:15 a.m., Bond said.

Of the five students in custody, four face charges of assault on a peace officer and one faces a charge of interference, police said. No weapons were found.

MedStar checked out nine people at the scene — students, staff members and a Fort Worth police officer. None had serious injuries, MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky said.

Police were investigating to determine what led to the fight.
