Dallas County health officials reported 408 new coronavirus cases Sunday and the death of a Dallas woman in her 60s who had been critically ill in a hospital and had underlying health conditions.
The new numbers bring the county’s total to 16,845 cases and 314 deaths.
Officials also said that of all cases after June 1, almost half of those who tested positive for COVID-19 are young adults between the ages of 18 to 39.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins continued to encourage the use of face masks in public.
“I had the chance to go into a grocery store today and saw every person in the store wearing a mask,” he said. “These are the sort of strong personal responsibility decisions we need to curb the spread of COVID-19 now that we are seeing a second wave.”
Tarrant County
Tarrant County reported 444 new coronavirus cases Sunday, the second-highest number reported by a North Texas county.
The highest case count was recorded May 10 by Tarrant County, which saw 485 cases then amid an outbreak at a federal prison.
Tarrant County’s total number of cases is now 8,955. Its death total remains at 208. The county also reported that 4,180 people have recovered from the virus.
Denton County reported 50 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing its total to 2,163. The county also reported seven new recoveries.
Denton County Public Health is providing free drive-through testing Tuesday at the University of North Texas.
The testing center is at the Union Circle Parking Garage at 350 S. Welch St. from 8 a.m. to noon. Preregistration is required, and testing is limited to people who’ve had symptoms within the last seven days, essential workers, people who are 60 years and older, as well as people who’ve had contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.
Collin County
Collin County reported 34 new coronavirus cases Sunday, bringing its total to 2,223 cases. The number of deaths remained at 38.
The county reported 843 active cases, and 1,342 people have recovered from the virus.
Other counties
Several counties had not reported new case numbers by 7 p.m. Sunday.
Rockwall County had reported 264 cases, 16 deaths and 195 recoveries as of Friday.
Kaufman County had reported 360 cases, three deaths and 293 recoveries as of Friday.
Ellis County had reported 519 cases, 19 deaths and 367 recoveries as of Thursday.
Johnson County had reported 279 cases, four deaths and 194 recoveries as of Friday.
