Irving roadwork update: Projects that could affect your commute

The construction of DART’s newest light rail station may still affect your commute if you are in the Hidden Ridge area, and now there’s a new closure on a portion of W. Oakdale Road at least into July.

Read on for other projects and closures that might affect your commute. Stay safe, Irving.

Glenmore and Shepherd streets, from Sixth Street to Irving Boulevard

Motorists should expect periodic lane closures on Glenmore and Shepherd streets, from Sixth Street to Irving Boulevard, for utility improvements and street paving. The project will begin July 27 and run through May 2021. Only one street — either Glenmore or Shepherd — will be reduced to one-way traffic at a time. Traffic along eastbound E. Irving Boulevard also will be affected.

The project will rebuild both of the existing barrow ditch roads, Glenmore and Shepherd streets, and improve them to 31-foot wide standard roadway sections. Sidewalks on both sides of roadways and barrier-free ramps will be added.

MacArthur Boulevard, from Rochelle Road to Richard Huff Way

Beginning July 20, various northbound lanes of MacArthur Boulevard, between Rochelle Road to Richard Huff Way, will be closed 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, Monday through Friday, for utility crews to locate underground utilities. At least one northbound lane will be open at all times. Barricades will be removed at night. The project is expected to be completed by July 31, weather permitting. Motorists are advised to expect traffic delays and seek alternate routes when possible.

W. Oakdale Road from Cactus Court to Robinson Street: The eastbound lane of W. Oakdale Road, from Cactus Court to Robinson Street, will be closed beginning Monday as part of Irving’s ongoing water and wastewater infrastructure improvements. The project is expected to run through July 17, weather permitting. Detours will be indicated with signs, and traffic may be directed by flaggers in the construction area.

Hidden Ridge DART Station construction: Irving residents and Orange Line passengers can expect construction activity between the North Lake College and Irving Convention Center stations to begin early this month, as DART’s new Hidden Ridge station begins to take shape. The station will tie-in with the city’s nearby $1 billion project, which will be a 110-acre mixed use development for Verizon Communications Inc. that includes retail, restaurants, apartments, a hotel and additional office space.

Work will begin with a preliminary excavation on Meadow Creek Drive near Green Park Drive. Possible lane closures and minor interruptions of Orange Line operation are anticipated. Weather permitting, work will be performed weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with occasional weekend activity if needed.

California Crossing Road: California Crossing Road is closed for utility work from Riverside Drive to Luna Road in Dallas. Work is scheduled to run through the summer, weather permitting. This closure is part of the Urban Lift Center Station project. Drivers can use West Northwest Highway (TX-348 Spur) or Tom Braniff Drive/Wildwood Drive as a detour.

Las Colinas Boulevard Project Phase 3: The southern half of Las Colinas Boulevard from Brazos Drive to Lake Carolyn Parkway is closed for underground utility work. During this time, the northern half of Las Colinas Boulevard will be available for two-way traffic. The project is expected to be complete in the fall.

Oak Meadow Drive Bridge, at Delaware Creek: Oak Meadow Drive is closed completely at the bridge crossing Delaware Creek through winter 2021. This is part of the same project affecting the Sunnybrook Drive and Cripple Creek Drive bridges.

Detour signs for Oak Meadow Drive are posted along William Brewster Drive, Green Oaks Drive, Colony Drive and Grauwyler Road.
