Houston Rep. Lizzie Fletcher defeats Republican Wesley Hunt to win reelection in Texas congressional district

Houston Rep. Lizzie Fletcher, a freshman Democrat, fended off Republican Wesley Hunt, an Army veteran, in a district that she wrested in 2018 from longtime incumbent GOP Rep. John Culberson, according to the Associated Press.

In the race’s final days, the dominant topic was energy policy.

Hunt sought to tie Fletcher to former Vice President Joe Biden’s pledge in a recent debate to “transition from the oil industry.” Though the presidential candidate clarified that he was “not going to get rid of fossil fuels,” Fletcher distanced herself from his remarks.
