U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul of Austin fends of Democratic challenger Mike Siegel — again

Eight-term GOP Rep. Michael McCaul of Austin has defeated Democrat Mike Siegel, a former Austin assistant city attorney who conceded late Tuesday.

Siegel came out of nowhere in 2018 to come within 5 points of beating McCaul, the top Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. This year’s rematch was even more heated, with both candidates slugging away at each other in TV ads.

McCaul hammered Siegel for supporting Medicare for All and other progressive ideas, while the Democrat accused the Republican of not taking the coronavirus seriously enough.
