27-year-old woman facing intoxication manslaughter charge after crash that killed passenger

A 27-year-old woman is facing an intoxication manslaughter charge after a crash Thursday morning in northeast Dallas that killed her 33-year-old passenger.

Stephania Ruiz, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, who has not been identified, was taken to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas and found to be under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Police said that at about 12:20 a.m., the woman was driving in the southbound lane of the North Central Expressway service road, near Coit Road and Forest Lane, when she swerved and hit a light pole on the road’s shoulder.

The impact caused the car to spin counterclockwise and hit a concrete bridge support on the side of the road.

The driver was arrested after being taken to the hospital, police said, where she is still being treated for her injuries.
