McKinney firefighters save woman in rooftop rescue

A woman was rescued from the rooftop of her burning home early Sunday morning in McKinney.

After helping her mother escape from the residence, located in the 6300 block of Avalon Woods Drive, the woman went back inside to retrieve her cell phone and was unable to exit, according to the McKinney Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived to find the resident stranded on the roof of the home. The woman was brought to safety after rescuers deployed a ladder.

“If a fire breaks out in your home, you have just a few minutes to get out safely,” said McKinney Fire Marshal Mike Smith in a news release. “Close doors as you leave and don’t go back inside for any reason.”

The mother and daughter were treated and transported to a local hospital for burns and smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
