1 more Hard Freeze Warning tonight before a warming trend

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — We can do it, Houston! There’s one more night of Arctic cold on the way.

A Hard Freeze Warning has been issued for areas northwest of Houston for Friday night through Saturday morning. This means pipes are in jeopardy of freezing up and bursting again. Keep your pets inside, protect those pipes, and leave your plants covered up for one more night.

This weekend, expect highs in the upper 50s on Saturday, and temperatures will climb even higher during the day on Sunday to the mid to upper 60s ahead of a weak cold front. That front may bring a few showers, especially along the coast as it moves out into the Gulf before sunrise Monday.

Are there anymore freezes on the way?
After temperatures warm above freezing Saturday morning, we are done with freezes for the rest of our 10 day forecast. Sunday should be the first morning in several days that temps won’t drop to below freezing. It’s possible winter has another freeze left in it, but 50% of the time Houston is done with freezes after February 19th.

How long will we get to enjoy the sunshine?

The sky will cloud back over this weekend as warm, moist air moves over the cold shelf waters in the Gulf of Mexico. We’ll get a good dose of sunshine Saturday morning, then clouds will start to return during the afternoon. Sea fog is likely to return as early as Saturday night. That weak cold front arriving Sunday night will push away the sea fog. This will bring back abundant sunshine Monday and Tuesday. More clouds and sea fog will return Wednesday of next week.
