2 Dallas police officers arrested in unrelated incidents

Two Dallas police officers were arrested Friday and Saturday in unrelated incidents, the department announced.

Senior Cpl. Thomas Hartmann, who joined the department in January 2010, was charged with assault and tampering with a witness in connection with an unspecified incident that occurred March 6 in Aubrey.

Hartmann turned himself in to the Denton County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, the department said. He has since posted bond and been released.

Senior Cpl. Terry Charles was arrested Saturday by Cedar Hill police on charges of driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon. He was booked into the Tri-City Jail in DeSoto in lieu of $3,000 bail.

Cedar Hill officers found Charles alone and apparently sleeping in a running car parked near a closed business in the 200 block of Uptown Boulevard, near Belt Line Road and U.S. Highway 67. The officers determined that he was intoxicated, Cedar Hill police said.

Charles joined the Dallas Police Department in September 2008.

Both officers were placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of internal investigations, the department said.

The arrests follow the recent arrest and firing of Dallas Officer Bryan Riser, who is charged with two counts of capital murder in connection with a pair of 2017 slayings. He remained in the Dallas County jail Saturday in lieu of $5 million bail.
