Dallas police officer shoots dog to keep it from attacking child in southeast Oak Cliff

A Dallas police officer shot a dog Monday to prevent it from attacking a child in southeast Oak Cliff, police said.

Police were called shortly before 4 p.m. to the 4000 block of South Denley Drive, near South Lancaster and Fordham roads, where the dog was attempting to attack a 10-year-old.

The dog charged at an officer who arrived at the location, and the officer fired two shots.

The dog was struck at least once and was still alive later Monday afternoon, police said.

The child and the officer were not injured in the incident.

Last month, a woman was hospitalized after being attacked by several loose dogs she was feeding in the Mountain Creek area. When the dogs rushed at Dallas police, an officer fired several shots, killing one of the dogs.
