17-year-old boy drowns in Joe Pool Lake, Grand Prairie officials say

A teenager drowned Friday evening at Joe Pool Lake, according to Grand Prairie authorities.

The Grand Prairie Fire Department was called around 6:10 p.m. about the possible drowning of a boy who had gone underwater while swimming near the beach and had not resurfaced.

Divers found the 17-year-old after he’d been underwater about half an hour. He was not wearing a life vest.

The teen, whose name was not released, was taken to Medical City Arlington Hospital and pronounced dead.

The fire department urged people to wear life vests or other flotation devices when they go swimming.
