Suspect in violent Grapevine carjacking dies in Parker County crash

The suspect in a Grapevine carjacking during which an Uber driver was stabbed multiple times has died in a traffic accident.

Cesar Soto, 33, of Lewisville died in a crash Friday in Weatherford, Grapevine police said Tuesday. Police said they learned of the crash Monday and waited until Soto’s family had been notified before announcing his death.

Soto had been sought on an aggravated-robbery warrant after the May 13 incident. The driver, whose name was not released, was dropping of a passenger at the Amli apartments in the 400 block of Dallas Road when the man attacked him and drove off in his Toyota Camry.

The victim was taken to a hospital and was expected to recover from his injuries.

The stolen car was later found in Colleyville.

Weatherford police reported a major crash Friday afternoon on Interstate 20 near Center Point Road, shutting down the highway in both directions.

According to the Weatherford Democrat, a westbound vehicle was passing other vehicles on the inside shoulder, then went through a damaged portion of a cable barrier into the oncoming lanes. It collided with an eastbound vehicle, and its driver was thrown onto the median.
