Here’s when a chance for cooling downpours returns

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Extreme steam will stick around through the weekend, but your chance for a cooling downpour returns next week.

Temperatures Friday morning will start in the mid 70s getting us closer to our average low of 73. With less moisture in the atmosphere on Friday, you can expect a mostly sunny sky with highs back into the mid 90s.

What can we expect for the weekend?
The heat and humidity will stick with us Saturday, but Sunday marks the beginning of a pattern change that will bring back your chance for a daily downpour. Temperatures will still warm into the mid 90s both afternoons. A front pushing toward the Gulf Coast will bring back enough moisture to spark scattered downpours Sunday afternoon. Some of those thunderstorms coming in from the northeast could turn severe with gusty winds and large hail. We are currently calling for a 30% chance of shower and thunderstorms.

Is it true that a tropical system could develop in the Gulf of Mexico next week?
Yes, it is possible low pressure will spin up in the western half of the Gulf next week, but it is way too early to know if we’ll get any impacts here should one form. You can stay aware and informed on what’s happening in the tropics by visiting abc13.com/tropicalupdate.
