Police officer injured in shooting during traffic stop in Wise County, authorities say

Wise County and Rhome authorities are looking for a suspect who they say shot a police officer in the leg Sunday night.

Sheriff’s deputies and Rhome police officers pulled over two people on a motorcycle near the intersection of Farm-to-Market roads 407 and 2264 Sunday evening, Wise County Sheriff Lance Akin told KXAS-TV (NBC5).

One person on the motorcycle matched the description of a suspect in a home invasion Saturday evening, Akin said.

Akin told NBC5 that the driver of the motorcycle got off the bike and fired “a couple of shots” at officers. A Rhome police officer was struck in the leg and was taken to a hospital in stable condition, NBC5 reported.

The man who shot the officer fled on foot and is still at large, NBC5 said. A woman, the passenger of the motorcycle, was taken into custody.

No further information was available.
