Woman stabs 2 children, killing 6-year-old girl, in South Dallas, police say

A woman stabbed two children Thursday afternoon in South Dallas, killing a 6-year-old girl, police say.

Officers responded about 1:50 p.m. to a home in the 2900 block of Frazier Street, near Spring Avenue, where the woman had attacked a boy and a 6-year-old girl.

A woman who witnessed the stabbings ran to alert a neighbor, police spokesman Senior Cpl. Brian Martinez said. That neighbor, an off-duty law enforcement officer, restrained the woman and then took the 6-year-old to a nearby fire station. The girl was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The wounded boy was hospitalized and was stable, police said.

The woman and the children were not publicly identified, and police did not say how they were connected.

Police said the woman was in custody and was being questioned by detectives.

Authorities did not say what agency the neighbor worked for but said he was not injured.

No details about what led to the attack were released.

Hours after the stabbings, detectives were walking in and out of a blue-paneled house, and police tape blocked off part of the street. Crime scene technicians processed evidence and took pictures of a gold Nissan Murano parked in the street.

Neighbors said they hadn’t seen what happened and declined to comment.
