Hot for Juneteenth, small chance for Father’s Day storms

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Get ready for a hot, mostly dry Juneteenth and just a small chance for cooling downpours on Father’s Day. Deep moisture associated with Potential Storm Three will blow in on Sunday, pushing rain chances up to 30%.

The Gulf of Mexico is getting stirred up by Potential Storm Three, and that’s leading to a hazard in the waters.

A High Rip Current Risk is in effect along the upper Texas coastline until Saturday morning, though it may be extended, according to Galveston Beach Patrol.

Experts warn beachgoers to use extreme caution if entering the water, and stay near a lifeguard.

We are also monitoring the Gulf of Mexico for potential tropical development. Heavy rains wrapping around this low should reach the U.S. Gulf Coast by Friday night.

If we don’t get any rain this weekend, when is our next best chance?

Our highest rain chance over the next 10 days will actually come on Tuesday when a rare June front reaches Houston. This will bring widespread clouds and widely scattered showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will peak in the 80s, but by Wednesday it will start drying out and heating back up into the 90s.
