Storms in D-FW area dissipating, with chance for morning rain on horizon, weather service says

Isolated storms that swept westward through the region brought brief periods of heavy rain to some areas while leaving others dry, according to the National Weather Service. Wednesday morning brings another chance for precipitation.

A flood warning was in effect Tuesday evening for areas around Elm Fork of the Trinity River, with water levels reaching above 8 feet, according to the weather service. Severe flooding is not expected, said Daniel Huckaby, an NWS meteorologist.

“It’s one of those chokepoints where the water tends to get a bit high,” he said.

No rainfall had been recorded at DFW International Airport by mid-evening Tuesday, while Dallas Love Field saw a trace. About an inch was recorded at Exall Park in Old East Dallas, but many parts of the city remained dry.

The weather service recorded wind gusts of around 20 mph in the Dallas area, with no reports of major property damage. Pea-size hail was reported near Coppell and in parts of Irving, Huckaby said.

“This time of year we always have heat and humidity to work with that can help showers and storms develop,” he said.

Temperatures in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are expected to be in the mid-70s Wednesday morning, when the chance of rain returns, according to the weather service. Scattered thunderstorms are expected this weekend and early next week, including potential for gusty winds and heavy rain.
