Flash Flood Watch continues for our coastal counties through Friday morning

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for our coastal counties south of Houston. We expect 3-7″ of rainfall to be common in this watch area through Friday morning with isolated spots near Matagorda Bay receiving over 10 inches of rain.

Multiple rounds of widespread rain are possible through Friday with the best chances and highest accumulations likely along the coast.

While the highest accumulations will stay south and southwest of Houston, intermittent waves of showers and storms will be lifting up through Houston, making for a slick morning commute for many.

Those waves of showers are possible throughout the day so make sure you keep your umbrella handy!

How long will this wet weather pattern stick around?
Deep tropical moisture wrapping around low pressure over South Texas will persist through Friday. The best chance of rain will be southwest of Houston towards Matagorda Bay. Widespread and at times heavy rain is also expected along the coastline through Galveston & the Bolivar Peninsula. Houston will have about a 70% chance of rain Thursday with rain chances decreasing to a 60% chance once you go north of Harris County. The chance for scattered rain continues through the end of the week but chances will decrease over the weekend.

How much rain should I expect?
We expect 1-3″ of rain to be fairly common around Houston through Friday. Southwest of Houston near Matagorda Bay should see rainfall totals climb into the 5-7″ range with isolated higher amounts. Freeport, Galveston, High Island, and areas just inland should be looking at rain totals between 3-5″.

Will it rain again this weekend?
There is still a chance for afternoon downpours Saturday and Sunday, but these will be more scattered in nature. At this time we are predicting a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday and 30% on Sunday with high temperatures near 90.
