Here are the latest counties added to the Flash Flood Watch

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Heavy bands of training thunderstorms are possible southwest of Houston during your commute Friday morning, and that could lead to significant flash flooding in communities closer to Matagorda Bay.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect southwest of Houston until 7 p.m. Friday, and additional counties have been added.

We expect three to seven inches of rainfall to be common in this watch area through Friday evening with isolated spots near Matagorda Bay receiving up to 12 inches of rain. Most of this rain will fall Friday morning, but some showers and storms will linger into the afternoon.

While the highest accumulations will stay south and southwest of Houston, intermittent waves of showers and storms will be lifting up through Houston, making for a another messy morning commute for many.

How long will this wet weather pattern stick around?
Deep tropical moisture wrapping around low pressure over south Texas will persist through Friday. The best chance of rain will be southwest of Houston towards Matagorda Bay. Houston will have about a 70% chance of rain through Friday with rain chances decreasing to a 60% chance once you go north of Harris County. By Friday night, the low pressure will have moved far enough west to take the deep tropical moisture along with it. This will drop the rain chances to 40% and below for the weekend.

How much rain should I expect?

We expect one to three inches of rain to be fairly common around Houston through Friday. Southwest of Houston near Matagorda Bay should see rainfall totals climb into the five to seven inches range with isolated higher amounts. Freeport, Galveston, High Island, and areas just inland should be looking at rain totals between three to five inches.

Will it rain again this weekend?
There is still a chance for afternoon downpours Saturday and Sunday, but these will be more scattered in nature. At this time we are predicting a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday and just a 20% on Sunday. High temperatures will top out in the upper 80s Saturday and the lower 90s Sunday.
