28-year-old man faces murder charge after girlfriend’s body found in northwest Dallas

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on a murder charge after his girlfriend’s body was found Saturday in an apartment near Julian T. Saldivar Elementary School in northwest Dallas, police said.

David Perez was being held in the Dallas County jail Monday, with bail set at $1 million.

Officers were called about 7:10 p.m. Saturday to the 9500 block of Brockbank Drive after the body was reported. The victim, whose neck had been cut, was pronounced dead at the apartment. She was identified as Heather Hammond.

A witness told police that Perez asked her to call 911 for him, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit.

Police later interviewed Perez, who said that he and Hammond had used heroin that morning and then gotten into an argument, the affidavit says. He told police he blacked out and that Hammond was lying on the floor when he woke up.

Authorities also reported finding a knife in the apartment that appeared to have blood and hair on it.
