Rain chances increase tonight as a weak front moves south

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Showers and storms have popped up this afternoon along the sea breeze. These storms could bring locally heavy rain which could lead to some ponding on the roads. We’ll continue to see the sea breeze move north continuing our chance for scattered rain.

Rain chances increase Monday afternoon into the evening as storms move in from the north ahead of a weak cool front. The latest models are bringing in a broken line of storms into our northern counties around 4 pm… Houston around 7-8 pm… and the coast around 10 pm. These storms could be heavy bringing the potential for isolated street flooding and some could be strong bringing gusty winds.

The actual “cool front” will slowly meander down towards the coast as we head into Tuesday morning and then will remain stationary for the next couple of days.

Will the rainy pattern let up this week?
In a word, no. Another summer front will push down the Plains and into Southeast Texas Monday night into Tuesday. That boundary will generate widespread showers, thunderstorms, and clouds Monday night through Thursday. There is washout potential on these days, so if you have outdoor plans it might be good to have a “plan B” ready to go just in case. The good news is high temperatures may peak in the 80s all three of those days.

Will we ever get a break from this rain?
Yes! We are expecting a change in our weather pattern as we head into the weekend. A ridge of high pressure will build in over Texas bringing in drier conditions for this weekend and the following week.
