Camaro driver may have been street racing before slamming into family’s van in Alief area, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A family had to be taken to the hospital after a driver believed to have been street racing slammed into their van Thursday night in the Alief area.

Police received a call for a major crash around 8:09 p.m. on 7500 S. Kirkwood and Corona Lane.

According to an HPD sergeant at the scene, a Camaro going southbound on the road was racing an SUV when the Camaro collided with the family’s van as it was making a left turn.

The SUV drove off, and the Camaro driver ran away.

Adults and children inside the van were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police did not know how many people were inside that vehicle.

Authorities are investigating to confirm if the drivers were indeed racing.
