Suspected car thief fatally shot in Uptown after trying to ram vehicle’s owner, Dallas police say

A car owner fatally shot a man who stole the vehicle Tuesday afternoon in Uptown Dallas, police said Wednesday

Police were called about 2:20 p.m. Tuesday to the 3200 block of North Fitzhugh Avenue, near Travis Street, where the shooting had been reported.

Officers found a man dead in a parking lot outside a restaurant. Police identified him as 23-year-old Mohammad Abdulrahman.

Police said Abdulrahman had stolen a vehicle earlier in the afternoon. He then got into an argument with the vehicle’s owner and rammed the stolen car into another vehicle belonging to that man.

The car’s owner then shot Abdulrahman, police said.

Detectives interviewed the shooter, whom police did not identity. The case will be referred to a Dallas County grand jury to determine whether charges should be filed.
