About 1,800 Richardson residences affected by city bulky trash pickup changes

About 1,800 Richardson residences west of U.S. 75 that were in the Friday Brush and Bulky Item Collection (BABIC) and recycling zone will be moved to the Tuesday collection zone. The change is effective Tuesday, according to an announcement.

Trash pickup for the affected homes will remain on both Tuesday and Friday.

A map outlining the changes is available here.

The change will help balance service across Richardson’s four collection zones, according to the city.

Current BABIC and recycling zones date back to 1992 when the city had a population of about 76,000. Since then, the city has grown to about 117,000 people. Much of that growth has happened in the Friday collection zone, which is also known as the panhandle region of Richardson.

The expansion of the Tuesday collection zone boundary is intended to allow the city to complete BABIC and recycling collections in a more timely manner, the announcement states.

Residents who have questions can contact the city’s 24-hour response line at 972-744-4111 or e-mail Paula Johnson, environmental services superintendent, at paula.johnson@cor.gov.
