Scattered storms this weekend, fall front expected next week

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Rain chances are going back up over the weekend, but next week we are expecting a big drop in the humidity with the arrival of our first fall front.

Before we get that taste of fall fresh air, we have deeper moisture and higher rain chances on the way.

The remnants of Nicholas remain over Louisiana, and that moisture will filter back in over the weekend.

Temperatures will bottom out in the low-to-mid 70s Saturday morning before warming toward 90. Scattered downpours will pop up in the late morning and early afternoon, dropping temperatures into the 70s where it rains. Some of these storms could produce gusty winds with frequent cloud-to-ground lightning strike. Most of you that get rain will pick up less than 1″, but there could be up to 3″ in the heaviest storms. Your chance of getting rain is 30%.

How does the rest of the weekend look?
Moisture levels drop a notch Sunday, so we have 30% rain chances in the forecast. The rain could start earlier in the day than it will on Saturday, so temperatures will again peak in the mid and upper 80s.

Okay, get to the good stuff. What can you tell us about next week’s front?

We’ve got our first fall-front penciled in for Wednesday, the day astronomical fall begins. This front looks like it will bring us a splendid drop in the humidity with cool mornings in the 50s and 60s and mild afternoons in the 80s. There is a chance of storms when the front blows in Tuesday night.

Is there anything of concern in the tropics?
At this time, no. Odette formed off the East Coast but is no threat to land. Another tropical wave over the Atlantic will curve north before reaching the Gulf of Mexico. You can get a full overview of the tropics on our tropical update page.
