Suspect in Weatherford bank robbery arrested after leading officers on a two-city chase, police say

A man accused of robbing a Weatherford bank was arrested Wednesday after leading officers on a miles-long chase, police in the Parker County town said.

Officers were notified around 4:42 p.m. Wednesday about a robbery at Chase Bank, 225 E. Interstate 20, police said. The suspect, described as a man in his 40s who was carrying a backpack and wearing a face covering, stole money and left in a dark-colored SUV with no license plate, police said.

Officers found an SUV matching that description at the intersection of Holland Lake Drive and the southbound I-20 service road, police said. They executed a traffic stop, but the man refused to get out of the SUV and fled, leading officers on a chase on I-20 to Hudson Oaks, a Parker County town just east of Weatherford, police said.

In Hudson Oaks, the man switched to westbound U.S. Highway 180 and headed back into Weatherford, where he drove off the road in the 2200 block of the highway, crashed through a fence and stopped in the middle of a field, police said. The man tried to run away on foot, but officers arrested him a short distance from the SUV.

Police had not disclosed the man’s identity as of Wednesday evening. Officers from both Weatherford and Hudson Oaks were involved in the pursuit, Weatherford police said.

Police haven’t said if anyone was injured in the incident, but did say no weapons were involved in the bank robbery.
