Foggy start with near-record heat today… cold front midweek

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Much of Southeast Texas is dealing with patchy dense fog this morning, and a Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for Austin, Colorado, Fort Bend, Inland Brazoria, Inland Matagorda, Waller, and Wharton Counties until 9AM. While the city of Houston is not included in that advisory, it doesn’t mean we are fog-free.

As the fog gradually clears this morning we’ll see plenty of sunshine and temps near record-highs. We have the high temp in Houston at 90 degrees this afternoon.

Rain chances return to the forecast Tuesday and spike Wednesday before a cool front moves in. Cooler and drier air filter in behind the front.

We have the next cold front penciled in for Wednesday, October 27th. Cooler, drier, and breezy air is expected to move in behind the front Wednesday evening

Is there any rain that could cool us off before then?
Tuesday will bring a chance for scattered storms but more widespread rain is expected Wednesday ahead and along on our next cool front. We will also have to watch Wednesday morning for an isolated strong storm or two.

How does Halloween look?
Right now, the forecast looks great. Lows in the upper 50s and highs in the low 80s with mostly sunny skies.

Is there anything of concern in the tropics?

Texas is normally done with hurricane season by mid October. Chief Meteorologist Travis Herzog explains whyhere. We will be monitoring a developing system in the Pacific that could send moisture into Texas next week and bring us a higher chance of heavy rain.
