Former Southlake Mayor Laura Hill announces bid for Texas house seat

Former Southlake mayor Laura Hill has announced that she is running for the Texas House District 93 seat.

The seat is currently held by Rep. Matt Krause, who has announced that he is running for Texas attorney general in September.

“Friends, I am happy to announce that I am running for the Republican nomination for Texas House District 93,” Hill wrote on Facebook on Monday. “It’s been almost 17 years since I saw a need in my community to serve. I am proud of the things we accomplished together.”

Hill was the city’s first female mayor, from 2015 to 2019, and highlighted her experience in the office in her announcement.

“We showed that you can cut local city property taxes and prioritize public safety by supporting and investing in our police and improving school safety so our children can focus on learning,” she said. “Now a new door opens and Joe and I are excited for the opportunity to use our experience to get things done for HD 93. I look forward to continuing to serve our great State and the people of Tarrant County.”

The district, which includes Keller and Northwest ISDs, was recently redrawn in the state’s redistricting process, which Gov. Greg Abbott signed into effect in late October.

Hill told Community Impact that she spent much of the last month meeting with residents in the district.

”I am really looking forward to continuing to represent the people of Tarrant County,” she said to the publication, “and I just really would like to continue to do the great job that I’ve done serving the people of Tarrant County.”

Krause made news — beyond his campaign announcement — on Oct. 25 when he launched an investigation into school library books and curriculums just months after Texas lawmakers sought to ban the presence of critical race theory from public campuses.
