SWAT standoff ends at Arlington home after man shoots at car, police say

An hours-long SWAT standoff at an Arlington home ended when a man surrendered following an alleged mental health crisis, police said.

Arlington police responded to a shooting call to a home in the 4500 block of Smokey Quartz Lane about 10:30 a.m. Officers learned that a man had fired at an unoccupied car and went inside the home, police said.

Police did not release his identity.

After attempting to contact the man, SWAT was called to assist. The man surrendered after several hours, police said.

Police said the man was having a mental health crisis, which led to him firing the shots. No one was injured.

The man was taken into custody and transported to the mental health center at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth for additional treatment and assistance.

No one was inside the home with the man, police said.
