26-year-old man arrested in fatal drive-by shooting, Allen police say

A 26-year-old man faces a murder charge in a deadly drive-by shooting that took place Saturday night, Allen police said.

Police responded to gunshot calls in the 500 block of East Bethany Drive in Allen about 8:30 p.m. Saturday and found the victim in the driver’s seat of a car. His identity will not be released until family has been notified, police said.

An initial investigation found that another car had driven by and shot twice into the victim’s car. A passenger in the victim’s car was not struck and called 911, police said.

The suspect, Ryan Thompson, was taken into custody Sunday in the 800 block of Lake Highlands Drive, about 2.5 miles from the incident.

Thompson attempted to run from police but was arrested following a foot pursuit, police said. He is being held at the Collin County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.

Police said Thompson and the victim knew each other, but a motive for the shooting has not been determined.

An investigation is ongoing.
