Far northeast Dallas apartment fire sends 1 person to hospital, displaces at least 20

An apartment fire in far northeast Dallas sent one person to the hospital and displaced at least 20 residents early Saturday, officials say.

Firefighters were called to the complex in the 12100 block of Audelia Road just after 4 a.m. and saw heavy fire coming through the roof of the two-story building. Residents had already evacuated when firefighters arrived, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said.

Several dozen firefighters worked to suppress the blaze, and it was extinguished within a couple of hours, Evans said.

One resident was taken to a hospital for evaluation after being exposed to smoke, he said.

Ten apartments were affected by the fire. The American Red Cross will work with the building’s management to find accommodations for displaced residents.

The fire began in the kitchen of a second-floor apartment, and its exact cause has not yet been determined, Evans said.
