Man fatally shot in South Dallas, police say

A man was fatally shot in South Dallas early Saturday and a suspect is in custody, police say.

Police said 41-year-old Shamkea Khalid was taken into custody on a murder charge in connection with the slaying of 45-year-old Eric Barber. She did not appear in jail records Saturday afternoon, and it was unclear whether she had an attorney.

Officers responded about 2:10 a.m. to a shooting call in the 4500 block of Elsie Faye Heggins Street, near Wahoo Park, and found Barber with a single gunshot would.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Police said witnesses gave a description a vehicle involved in the shooting. Officers found the car in the 4700 block of Meadow Street, about a mile and a half from the shooting, and arrested Khalid, police said.

No other details about the shooting were immediately available.
