3 arrested in connection with Oak Cliff gas station robberies, police say

Three men were arrested Sunday in connection with a string of early morning gas station robberies, Dallas police said.

Officers responded to four different robberies early Sunday in which they said the suspects’ vehicle was a beige sedan with a canvas top.

Shortly before 4:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of South Beckley Avenue, the first of two 7-Eleven locations in east Oak Cliff where police said a man with a gun had demanded money from the clerk. The second location, where they were asked to respond shortly before 5 a.m., was in the 2900 block of East Ledbetter Drive.

Between those two incidents, officers were notified that a man with a gun had demanded a person’s belongings in the parking lot of a QuikTrip in the 4700 block of R.L. Thornton Freeway in the Red Bird area, police said.

At 5:25 a.m., officers were called to a 7-Eleven in the 2200 block of South Zang Boulevard in central Oak Cliff, where a man with a gun demanded two people in the parking lot hand over their belongings, police said.

Around 6 a.m., officers reported that they had stopped a gold Mercury Grand Marquis with a canvas top with three men inside who fit the descriptions of people seen in surveillance video from the stores.

Police said the officers found items in the vehicle that were stolen in the robberies.

Vernon Hicks and Varion Hicks, both 26, and Eriesse Whitehead, 27, were arrested and are each facing four charges of aggravated robbery, police said. Whitehead is also accused of unlawfully possessing a firearm, according to police.

It is unclear if any of the men have an attorney. They were being held at a Dallas County jail and bail had not been set as of Sunday evening.
