Funerals held in Uvalde for 10-year-olds Makenna Elrod and Rojelio Torres

Funerals for two more students killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde were held Saturday.

Makenna Lee Elrod and Rojelio Fernandez Torres, both 10, were among 19 students and two teachers killed in the May 24 massacre.

Funerals for the victims are scheduled through the end of June.

Makenna’s funeral took place Saturday morning at First Baptist Church.

The 10-year-old loved gymnastics, softball, singing and dancing, her family wrote in her obituary.

She loved animals, was a natural leader and “made friends everywhere she went,” her family wrote.

“Her smile would light up a room,” her obituary reads. “She was full of life and will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.”

Makenna’s family said she loved writing notes to her family members and leaving them in hidden places for them to find later.

She is survived by her parents and six siblings.

Rojelio Torres

Rojelio’s funeral was held Saturday morning at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

In his obituary, his family said that he loved Pokémon, video games and playing football.

“Rojelio was an outgoing little boy, he loved life, loved being outside and he always had a smile on his face. He was always eager to help,” his obituary reads.

The day of the shooting, his family said they were sent back and forth across Uvalde searching for answers before learning he was among the victims.

“We are devastated and heartbroken,” said Precious Perez, Rojelio’s aunt. “Rojer was a very intelligent, hard-working and helpful person. He will be missed and never forgotten.”

He is survived by his parents and three siblings.
