1 detained after hourslong SWAT scene outside home in River Oaks, police said

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — One person has been detained after an hourslong SWAT scene outside a home in the River Oaks area.

At about 10 a.m. Thursday, a SWAT team and officers tried to execute a search warrant at a home in the 3800 block of Del Monte, police said in a tweet.

In an update, police said the individual inside the home was detained shortly before 3 p.m.

Police said that due to this being an ongoing investigation, no other information will be released.

Neighbors in the area said they could hear police and relatives trying to get this person to come outside and cooperate. Law enforcement, including a narcotics unit, spent hours going in and out of the home once granted access.

A neighbor described the scene and said it looked and felt like the military had taken over their neighborhood. Kent Schaffer said, My wife came outside not knowing anything was going on, but she could hear on a loudspeaker somebody saying to come outside and keep your hands where we can see them. So shes looking around to see who this is. She couldnt see, but they were giving instructions to a person inside the house. So, she walked around the corner over here on Willowick to see what the problem was. There were several police cars. The street was blocked off, and they were keeping people away from Del Monte.

Neighbors said the homeowner is a prominent doctor, but ABC 13 has not confirmed the identity of the person arrested or what they may be charged with.
