Homeowner shoots and kills man attempting to steal his catalytic converter, police say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A homeowner is being questioned after shooting and killing a man outside an apartment complex parking lot early Friday morning, the Houston Police Department said.

Homicide detectives were called to the 7100 block of Village Way near Telephone Road after officers said the man was shot at about 7:25 a.m.

Patrol officers arrived on the scene and found the man suffering from a gunshot wound.

According to Det. Huff, the paramedics took the injured man to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The man’s identity has not been released pending Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences verification.

Later, an investigation revealed that the man allegedly attempted to steal the homeowner’s catalytic converter before he was shot, police said.

Members of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and investigators consulted amongst each other and determined that this case would be handed down to a grand jury.

Anyone with additional information in this case, is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
