A 17-year-old was arrested Friday after he shot a 14-year-old with an AR-15-style rifle in White Settlement, police say.

They found a 14-year-old with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Investigators said they believe the shooter confronted the younger boy over a dispute about a girl, and shell casings indicated the weapon was an AR-15-style rifle.

According to Stopps’ arrest-warrant affidavit, witnesses said the teen was accompanied by other people during the incident, and police are continuing to investigate.

Police said the victim was shot in the leg and is recovering at the hospital.

Stopps remained in custody, with bail set at $75,000.

“As a parent myself, I am appalled by the level of violence that was completely senseless and should have never happened,” White Settlement Chief of Police Christopher Cook said in a written statement

Cook said the Fort Worth Police Department and White Settlement ISD assisted with the arrest.
