Man suspected of fatal April shooting in Rochester Park is arrested

A man was arrested last week and faces a capital murder charge in connection with a fatal shooting of a teen in Rochester Park neighborhood in April.

In July, Dallas police identified Deandre Hamilton, 18, as a suspect in the fatal shooting of Salvador Milan, 17. Hamilton was arrested Dec. 6, and his attorney declined to comment on the case.

Around 7:40 p.m. April 4, officers were notified of a shooting in the 2500 block of Keeler Street, police have said, and found Milan with multiple gunshot wounds. Milan’s body was on the ground, but his foot was still in the passenger side of a black 2012 Mazda sedan, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit.

Investigators believe the gunman was sitting in the driver’s seat of the Mazda, the affidavit says. Police also found seven counterfeit $100 bills on the ground outside the car.

A witness who was with Milan on the day of the shooting told investigators that the teen used Instagram to set up a marijuana sale, according to the affidavit, and met several people outside a home in the 2600 block of Parsons Street — less than a mile away from where his was found.

Investigators obtained surveillance footage of the suspects arriving at the house about 7:30 p.m. in a black four-door sedan and Milan leaving with them a few minutes later, according to the affidavit. Milan’s father, who was home at the time, told investigators there were two people in the vehicle.

Shortly thereafter, video footage from the area showed two people running from the direction where Milan’s body was found, the affidavit says.

Investigators spoke with the owner of the suspect vehicle, whom they learned was Hamilton’s mother, the affidavit says. She told investigators Hamilton was driving the Mazda on the day of the shooting and that she was unable to contact him throughout the night following the incident.

Another witness told investigators that Hamilton had planned on playing basketball at a gym with another person that day, according to the affidavit.

Surveillance footage from a Mesquite fitness center showed Hamilton and second person arrive just before 7 p.m. the day of the shooting, the affidavit says. Hamilton was wearing a gray shirt, black pants and a backpack, which matched one of the suspects from video near the scene of the shooting, police said.

The pair left the gym at 7:07 p.m. in black four-door sedan with Hamilton driving, the affidavit says.

Hamilton remained at the Dallas County jail Tuesday, with his bail set at $250,000.
