9-year-old fatally stabbed in McKinney, father to face capital murder charge, police say

A man is in custody after his 9-year-old son was fatally stabbed in McKinney on Friday afternoon.

Police declined to identify the man, who they said will face a capital murder charge.

After a neighbor called 911 about 4 p.m., officers responded to a home in the 700 block of Anson Court, near Independence and Virginia parkways. Police said the caller said a woman found her son unconscious and bleeding in the home.

When officers arrived, they forced their way into the home and found the woman’s husband harming himself with a knife, police said.

The boy, who had been stabed multiple times, was in the garage, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities did not release his name.

The father was taken into custody and is being treated at a hospital, police said.

No one else was in the house and there is no threat to the public, police said.

Police said that because there is an active investigation, the information they can release is limited

“Our thoughts and prayers are with this family tonight,” police said in a written statement. “As our investigation unfolds over the coming days and weeks, we will be able to share more about what transpired today.”
