Arrest made in fatal Plano hit-and-run where woman was struck by multiple vehicles

Plano police arrested a 55-year-old man in a fatal hit-and-run Monday where a woman was struck by multiple vehicles, including a semi truck, on U.S. Highway 75 in Plano.

Richard Crockett Jr. of Sherman faces a charge of accident involving death and is being held at the Collin County jail. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.

Emergency crews in Plano were dispatched to multiple crashes on southbound U.S. 75 about 9:30 p.m. Monday.

In the first crash, a vehicle crashed into the back of another that was stalled in a traffic lane, police said. The driver of the stalled vehicle, which had its hazard lights on, exited the passenger side and a passing semi truck struck and pushed her into oncoming traffic.

Police said the semi’s driver did not stop and render aid and continued south.

The victim was struck again as she lay in the roadway. Plano Fire-Rescue pronounced the woman —identified as 29-year-old Leah Daniels of McKinney — dead at the scene.

Officer Jennifer Chapman, a police spokeswoman, said the person driving the second vehicle that struck Daniels stopped and is not facing charges.

Plano police are still investigating the incident.
