Woman found shot dead in car in east Oak Cliff, Dallas police say

A woman was found fatally shot in a car in east Oak Cliff on Thursday afternoon, Dallas police say.

Officers responded to a shooting call shortly after 5 p.m. in the 4200 block of Tacoma Street, near Sunnyvale Street, where they found Rajean Jackson, 28, shot dead in the passenger seat of a Dodge Charger, police said.

Police said they believe Devante Traylor, 30, was driving the Dodge and shot Jackson in the 1500 block of Duncanville Road, near West Illinois Avenue. They did not say how they identified him as a suspect or provide any additional information about what led up to the shooting.

Traylor was arrested on a murder charge, and it was unclear whether he had an attorney.

His bail on the murder charge is set at $1.25 million. He is also being held on a misdemeanor charge of family-violence assault from 2019 in which he is accused of hitting a woman.

Thursday’s fatal shooting comes on the heels of a particularly violent week in Dallas. At least 13 people were fatally shot in the city from March 9 through Wednesday — one of the highest death tolls in a single week in the past three years.

CORRECTION, 5:37 p.m. March 17, 2023: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said the victim was a man. Rajean Jackson was a woman.
