North Texas Sonic employee dies after being shot by 12-year-old, authorities say

A 32-year-old Sonic Drive-In employee died after a preteen shot him multiple times Saturday night in Keene, according to authorities.

Officers responded to the 300 block of South Old Betsy Road about 9:40 p.m. and found the victim, identified as Matthew Davis, lying in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Keene police. Keene is east of Cleburne in Johnson County.

Police said investigators believe that 20-year-old Angel Gomez of Fort Worth had been acting in a disorderly manner in the parking lot when Davis “confronted” him and the “argument soon became physical.”

The minor, , who was with Gomez, then went to the vehicle, retrieved a gun and shot Davis, police said.

Gomez and the minor, also of Fort Worth, left before officers arrived, but Gomez later returned and was arrested. The minor was located in nearby Rio Vista and taken into custody, police said, and several firearms were confiscated.

Both suspects face a murder charge, according to police.

The Johnson County sheriff’s office, which assisted police, said the shooter is 12 years old. Police do not typically publicly name juveniles.
