Houston:For the past twenty years, in a gesture of honor for Dr. Fouzia Siddiqui, the sister of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, who has been imprisoned in a federal jail in the American city of Dallas, a reception was organized by the President of the Pakistan American Congress, Ashraf Abbasi. The event was attended by Consul General Aftab Chaudhry and community leaders.
During the reception, a commemorative shield was also presented to Dr. Fouzia and the President of Aafia Foundation, Haji Maurya, by the Pakistan American Congress.
In her speech at the reception, Dr. Fouzia Siddiqui expressed heartfelt moments of meeting with Dr. Aafia and said that her sister had been deprived of basic facilities and isolated from the world. People used to say that she did not want to meet with her, but that was not true. She emphasized on understanding the conditions of Muslims and Pakistanis in America and questioned what has happened to the governments of Pakistan and why people are not raising their voices.
Addressing the gathering, host Ashraf Abbasi criticized the court that sentenced Aafia Siddiqui and said that she was innocent and no allegations had been proven against her. He stated that she had no connection with Osama bin Laden or any terrorist organization.
During the ceremony, Consul General Aftab Chaudhry praised Dr. Fouzia’s efforts and determination for the release of her sister and commended her resilience. He stated that due to her efforts, Aafia’s case has become the case of the entire nation.
