Daily downpours continue, and some could turn severe Thursday

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Our chance for daily downpours continues, and Thursday brings an even higher chance for thunderstorms as a disturbance tracks in from the northwest. Any storm that pops up Thursday could come with damaging downburst winds over 70 mph, small hail, and a quick inch or two of rain.

Temperatures will start off in the low 70s with patchy fog, then the mercury will rocket into the low 90s ahead of the storms.

Another ozone pollution watch is also in effect.

Are we expect more storms this weekend?

Yes, a few strong thunderstorms are possible late Saturday and overnight into Sunday. A stray storm cannot be ruled out for Sunday, but the rain chance is now less than 20%.

Is an early summer heat wave coming?

Well, yes! Temperatures will be back in the mid 90s this weekend, and they only go up next week as a heat ridge builds in. Some days next week could experience a heat index above 108, which is enough to trigger a Heat Advisory.

What is happening in the tropics?

The swirl of low pressure near the Azores has weakened, so the tropics are quiet for now. You can read/watch more about it on our Tropical Update page.
