Two victims dropped off a cemetery after gunfire exchange in NE Harris County, deputies say

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — An investigation is underway after one person died and three were injured, including a 14-year-old, following a shootout in northeast Harris County on Sunday evening.

According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, units responded to an incident on Reuben White Drive but learned the situation escalated in the 1200 block of Crosby-Lynchburg Road.

In an evening press conference, Gonzalez described the situation and told the media that investigators were piecing it together as it happened in multiple areas.

At around 3 p.m., a gray Dodge Charger pulled into an empty commercial center parking lot with three people inside. There were two young men, described as Black men, sitting in the parking lot before approaching the car and getting in, officials said.

That is when investigators said they believed an altercation happened inside the vehicle, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Still, it is unclear who fired first, Sheriff Gonzalez said.

“We want to know who pulled the trigger,” he said.

From there, investigators said two people, a man in his late teens or early 20s and a 14-year-old, were dropped off at Barrett Station Evergreen Cemetery on 560 Barrett Road, about four blocks from the initial scene.

According to investigators, first responders found the man dead from his injuries at the cemetery. The injured 14-year-old was taken to the hospital.

Two people who remained inside the vehicle drove themselves to the hospital and were also treated for gunshot wounds, investigators said.

One person, who was not injured, drove away from the scene in the Charger, which Gonzalez said investigators are still looking for.

This is the second mass shooting to happen in the Houston area on Sunday and one of 16 gun-related incidents in the Houston area since Friday, June 9.

Six people were shot earlier on Sunday after a fight erupted outside a popular SW Houston nightclub. The victims were all said to be in their 20s to earlier 30s.

“That stuff has got to stop. All this violence. All these youngsters out here. Come on now,” Rooster Conner, who witnessed the Crosby shooting, said. He was in a friend’s yard that borders the parking lot when shots rang out.

Investigators have confirmed no one is in custody regarding the Crosby-Lynchburg shooting at this time.
