Man arrested in connection with 2 convenience store robberies last week in Denton

Authorities have arrested a man who is accused of at least one armed in Denton last week, police said.

Shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday, officers were dispatched to a robbery at a convenience store in the 400 block of Coronado Drive, according to police. Someone reported that “an unknown suspect” entered the store, showed a gun and demanded money before leaving the area, police said.

About 6:15 p.m., officers were called to the 1200 block of East University Drive, where someone who matched the suspect description from the earlier incident held up a different convenience store and stole money before fleeing, police said.

Investigators identified Alejandro Jaine Turco, 24, as the suspect in both robberies, according to police. He was arrested Friday and is facing two aggravated robbery charges, police said, adding that Turco also had warrants for other crimes.

“This arrest was a team effort between multiple units of the police department, and the brave store clerks and witnesses who were able to provide our investigators with vital information,” the department said in a written statement Sunday.

Turco was booked into a Denton County jail Saturday, according to online records. His total bail for the two aggravated robbery charges is $70,000. It is unclear if he has an attorney.
