Sct’d storms Tuesday afternoon… drying out end of week

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — It was a busy evening in SE Texas Monday with widespread showers and storms moving through. We are looking at a break in that rain this Tuesday morning but it’s possible we could see some scattered redevelopment Tuesday afternoon. Storms should be more on the isolated side but any storm could bring heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds. Make sure you head indoors if you hear thunder.

What can we expect from this week’s front?

The front moved in Monday bringing us beneficial rain. This front is expected to linger over SE Texas Tuesday keeping rain chances in the forecast. Unfortunately a cooldown is not expected with this front.

When will it start to feel like fall?

We will have to wait until October for our first cold front to bring a real taste of fall. On average, Houston’s first morning low in the 50s occurs on Sept. 29, but given how warm it is expected to remain over Canada these next two weeks, we will likely have to wait a little longer than normal this year in Houston.

Are there any other tropical threats on the horizon for the Gulf of Mexico?

At this time, no tropical development is expected in the Gulf in the next 7 days. Tropical Storm Philippe will remain in the central Atlantic with no impacts to land. For a full overview of what’s happening in the tropics, head to our tropical webpage. Tropical Update page.
